Best Ways to Store Lawn Equipment in a Storage Shed

By Marvin Raber

Happy Spring! Now is the time to go through your storage sheds to reorganize them for the spring and summer mowing seasons. Proper storage will extend the lifespan of your tools, ensuring you are protecting your investment in them. You can get a durable Raber storage shed in multiple areas across the Midwest to store your lawn equipment, including our newest location in Tilton, Illinois. Here are the best ways to store lawn equipment in a storage shed, to ensure you can effectively use your tools for springtime.

Maximize Wall Space

When storing lawn equipment, the floor has top priority for storing larger equipment that you can’t hang up anywhere. You can use racks, pegboards, shelves, and more to store smaller items on the wall. Utilizing the wall space in our sheds will allow you to free up the floor space in your shed for large equipment like riding lawnmowers. Having smaller tools on the wall will keep frequently used items at eye level, making them easier to reach. It will also remove clutter from the floor, making your shed feel larger.

Shelves

Shelves are one of the best ways to maximize your wall space. Having shelves in your shed will give you space to store smaller, lighter items that would otherwise clutter up the floor. You can also use shelves to mount long-handled items underneath them. You can use hooks or wall racks to mount larger tools like shovels, weed wackers, trimmers, etc. to the shelves.

Pegboards

A pegboard is a fiberboard or plastic sheet with small holes in it that allow you to place hooks on to hang small tools. These are great storage tools, as they are easy to install into your shed and can hold a lot of versatile items. Tools like goggles, gloves, shears, and hand tools are best placed on pegboards. Attach baskets to the pegboard to hold really small items like seed packets. You could even have a workbench underneath the pegboard to create a gardening or workstation, just make sure you have a larger-sized shed like our Lofted Gambrel Barns or Pocahontas Sheds to have more floor space for equipment.

Organization

Ensuring everything is organized in your storage shed will make sure you can find the lawn equipment you need without having to dig around to find one tool. We find it best to organize by category and functionality, like long-handled tools, short-handled tools, soil, pots, large equipment, etc. For easier finding and organizing, label your tools. For further organization, delegate certain areas of your shed for specific lawn tasks. Have an area for planting, one for tools, one for decor, and so on.

Storage Bins

Using storage bins is a great way to group small items together to keep them organized. Storage bins will keep your shed uncluttered and can be easily stored in an overhead loft or underneath shelves.  Smaller storage bins are great for storing small items like nails, screws, cords, cables, etc. They will make items easily accessible whenever you need them. We highly recommend labeling all your storage bins for better organization, allowing you to find the tools you need without having to search through every bin.

Protect Your Equipment

Having proper protection on your equipment will ensure it stays in working condition. The best way to protect your equipment inside your shed is to ensure the structure is properly ventilated so no moisture builds up. Moisture, dust, and debris can cause your metal equipment to rust or corrode, regularly cleaning your shed and equipment and proper ventilation will prevent that from happening. If you want to further protect your metal equipment, you can use protective covers. While this is mainly important if you keep your equipment outside, it isn’t a bad idea to cover large equipment in your shed to further protect your investment.

Did You Know? Raber Offers Electric and Insulation Packages

Here at Raber Storage Barns, we offer both electrical and insulation packages to upgrade your storage buildings.

Electrical Package

Our electrical packages are convenient ways to safely install electricity in your storage shed.  Running electricity to your shed is beneficial as it makes the space a more comfortable workshop, especially during the evening. Our standard package comes with a 6 pole 100 amp breaker box, interior outlets, light switches, and interior light fixtures. Our premium package comes with an outdoor breaker box that has a waterproof rain cover and ground fault interrupters for added safety. After purchasing an electrical system with us, we will deliver a ready-to-use system that your electrician can connect and turn on immediately after we install it.

Insulation Package

Adding insulation to your storage shed will regulate the temperature inside it. Our foam insulation package comes in high through low densities that will best suit your unique environment. We recommend insulating your structure because it provides vapor and moisture barriers that protect and extend the life of your building’s siding and flooring. It allows you to control the airflow into the shed, and protect it from rodents and other wildlife from getting inside.
